Collabetition: More Super Bowl, Less Black Ops

Competition doesn't have to be an act of war. We think of it more like the Super Bowl, where the chance to be #1 is on the line, but at the end of the day good sportsmanship ultimately must prevail.

That's what we mean by collabetition, a blending of collaboration + competition. Yes, you *can* play by the rules and still be successful! In fact, in the social media world, it's even OK to reach out directly to your competitors to ask questions or share ideas!

Cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct is a low strategy. Good people don't want to win by breaking the rules... If it's done unethically, it should never be regarded as a true success. At the end of the game, you should be happy to shake hands with the other team knowing that you both did your best! As a bonus, you probably also learned something new during your head to head match up with a team that got the edge on you.

The Viral Age team won't be launching RPGs at our competitors every time they come within range. Our "black ops" will be limited to Call of Duty! When it comes to business, we'll be playing by the rules and limiting our explosions to fireworks. We'll be getting your attention without any collateral damage!

This doesn't mean we won't play as hard as we can, make bold moves, or refuse to tap when you lock us in a choke hold. The sounds of big hits and smashing helmets will definitely echo in our niche, creating many chances for us to shake hands after our small victories or defeats... all before quickly lining back up, and readying ourselves for the next wave.

Viral Age is in stealth mode. Until we remove the blockades, our competitors remain as anonymous as the software we've been creating. However, it's our committment to whoever you are out there that we are here to play fair.

Our mission, through collabetition, is to continue to build and evolve the best software and service we can for our customers - and we know you'll do the same! In the end, we'll both be better for it, and our customers will be rewarded with the choices they deserve... while the social media world becomes our referee on all of the difficult calls.

Stay tuned for some bold moves by Viral Age. Coming soon!

If you take a few minutes to read this article arguing against individual genius in Silicon Valley, the answer to the first interview question is referring quite definitively to the power of collabetition.
