If you haven't seen Freddie Wong's youTube channel yet, you should check it out. Along with his team, he's churning out some amazing low budget action shorts, with a great mix of humor and special effects. In fact, I think it can be argued that Freddie would be comparable to today's youTube version of Robert Rodriquez - Mr. El Mariachi!

While Rodriquez was doing absolutely pain staking stuff... like putting together films by continually pausing and recording a VCR hooked up to a camcorder... Wong is not to be discounted.

Although he benefits from the low cost production technologies of our time, he has something special about him. He's running the full gamut of production duties and is pumping out action shorts with writing, acting, and special effects that could easily hang in there with the 80s era action flicks if he decided to go lighter on the humor, self-deprecation, and gaming influence that gives his youTube channel such charm and mass appeal to the youTube generation.

Imagine what he could do with a Hollywood budget, known actors, and a hardcore special effects team? I'm thinking he could give Vin Diesel a run for his money... not so much on the muscles... but on the concepts and production!

Here are two very distinct individuals that I think should be paying attention to Mr. Wong:

1. Reed Hastings / Netflix Originals - Netflix is moving into high quality content creation in order to gain a competive advantage in the battle for the streaming video industry against such worthy foes as Amazon, Verizon, Hulu, and Redbox (all fighting for a piece of the action).

They want to creative their own exclusive, HBO quality content to lock their subscribers in... Lilyhammer being a recent example of a Netflix produced Web series.

Why should Reed be paying attention to Freddie Wong? Freddie represents the next generation and right now he can be acquired for a bargain. It's only a matter of time before Wong is producing Hollywood feature lengths and will be known as much for his characteristic style as John Woo is for his doves!

Reed... get Wong under contract with Netflix Originals. He'll bring with him something that no other network has done to date, pulling in a new style and demographic for you.

2. Sylvester Stallone - Sly is an action movie legend. If you were born in the era of Rocky or John Rambo and you didn't enjoy those movies, we can't be friends. Yet sly is still arguably the best at bringing the 80s action movie genre into the modern era.

Think "Expendables". While it wasn't my favorite film, it was high on action and had lots of scripted funny lines. I think the guys that are enjoying Wong's stuff are also enjoying movies like the Expendables, even if Freddie himself (a movie nut, I presume) might not.

If Stallone were to invest in Freddie and collaborate, he might be the launching point of Wong's career (the next level) and secure himself further legacy in the evolution of the action movie genre.

Sly - Test out Wong by bringing him in as an action script consultant.

3. Bonus: Quintin Tarantino - I have no idea what Tarantino would bring to the table for Wong, but I think he'd find his work interesting... and there could be some opportunities for collaboration.

While Freddie has millions of hits on YouTube, I still think it's early in his evolution and I believe his comedic style can evolve into a more serious take on the action genre.

Wong is sort of like the love child of Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan born in a Call of Duty world. He is good people.

My predictions have hereby been rendered. =)

Tip for Freddie:

Freddie, please watch some old school Clint Eastwood (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly; The Outlaw Josey Wales: Dirty Harry; and Unforgiven). Capture some of the grit!

Watch the bank robbery scene from heat 20 more times! It's almost flawless action.
